Buckbean Black Noddy Lager

I'm the sort of fruity bastard who doesn't like to mix meals with drinking. Snacks, yes...but meals definitely not. It doesn't work for me at all. On the contrary, Doritos and a hefeweizen make prefect comrades. The same can be said for various candies and chocolates with a stout or porter. What I'm getting at is this is dessert and I have a big fat sweet tooth (Not to mention that I am a heathen.). As a lager the B. Noddy rivals the Samuel Adams' Black though I find that the latter is rather inconsistent taste-wise, like many of their seasonals are, which most likely originates with in the distributor's stocking past the prime dates. Anyhow, this one packs more of a malty roasty toasty essence than the Sammy Black and comes closer to a porter (though light it may be) in my estimation. That's a good thing, right? I think so. Now maybe the Buckbeaners can send me some juicy red ale to eat with a steak (I'll provide this on somebody else's dime!) and then my happiness will extend further than it already does. This is a rather pleasing concoction, folks. Plus it comes in a can! Remember the can? Yes, they utilize less resources than bottles do to pack, ship and recycle. We are civilized beings are we not? Then do your job and drink from cans when you can and recycle even if you don't want to.

Buckbean Orange Blossom Ale

Buckbean Orange Blossom Ale

You've heard of the tubby boxer named Butterbean, right? Yeah, he has nothing to do with this beer despite the similarities in names. Not to mention that this is no hairy, sweating knockout punch of an ale! When opened and poured the orange fragrance coming from the can (YES A CAN!) wafted over to the side of my head, knocked on my ear and said to my brain, "Oh shit...here comes another fruity dendron!" But it wasn't to be so. This ones starts off a little dry but then opens with a pleasant blend of caramel, citrusy orange and a smidge of hoppy goodness. Nothing bitter or off-putting and certainly not delicate whatsoever. I'd rate this up there with any high quality ale but the can is the difference to me. I like cans and have always felt that beverages taste better coming from a can. I can't say that this tastes better because it comes from a can -- seeing as I've never had it from a bottle -- but it surely quenches my long long thirst for a beer after many moons without one. Thanks for welcoming me back Buckbean.

Buckbean Beer

Buckbean Brewing Co., if nothing else, has perfect timing in entering my life! The evening prior to the day that I finally procured visitation rights with my young daughter, I also received a box of beer from said brewery. In cans no less! They say that the cans are not only for quality control purposes but also environmental reasons. I'll leave the explaining up to them and the beer reviewing up to me. Time for a read and a toast since I couldn't do it the night before court! Cheers you fiends!
