Once a month my mammy travels to Nashville with me to see my little girl and most times she buys a six pack after we drop the little clone off. This is a great thing, right? I also have to pick it out which is great as well, right? Yeah, well you've probably never had a Polish mother who expects that no matter what you buy it's going to be the best beer in the world. Luckily Kroger has a fairly well-stocked craft beer section and I've done pretty good picking out Yuengling Black and Tan, Fat Tire Amber Ale and this one as well. When I cracked this one open and started drinking it she said, "Well?" And I retorted, "This is one of the best beers I've ever had." To which she replied, "Don't be a drama queen. You don't have to kiss ass because I paid for it." Yeah, yeah. No shitting you, this is a great black ale, people. Now trying a second bottle it has lost a little of its luster but there is a solid chocolate backbone to the thing and sweet bready malt which seemed to have an estery sourness in the first go around but comes across rather dry and grain-enhanced in this bottle. While the taste is inconsistent from bottle to bottle the quality isn't and I could easily drink a few of these in succession but for the fact that I am already too fat and thus will stop at one for the day.

I can't get this in NY, but I'm planning on homebrewing a clone of it. They apparently use lager yeast but at room temps, which is sort of a steam beer technique. A steam stout?
